FREELANCE WORDPRESS WEB DESIGNER
Location: Philippines, remote
Engagement: Freelance/project-based initially, with the opportunity for ongoing ad-hoc work
Initial project: Approximately 15–25 hours
Rate: Depending on experience and portfolio
About the Project
We have recently had a new Trojan Commerce website designed and built by an external agency.
The website is complete and the main content is already in place, but it needs a final design and presentation review before we consider it fully finished.
This is not a website build, development project or complete website redesign.
We are looking for someone with a strong visual and design eye who can independently review the existing website, identify where the presentation could be improved, make recommendations and then implement the agreed changes within WordPress.
We do not want to prescribe every individual change or provide a detailed specification for every task.
We want someone who can review the website themselves, identify what they believe could be improved and explain how they would make it better.
The objective is to improve the website within the existing design and brand rather than redesigning it unnecessarily.
What You'll Do
The successful candidate will review the website page-by-page and make recommendations covering areas such as:
- Headings and subheadings
- Typography
- Visual hierarchy
- Spacing and alignment
- Formatting of existing text and content blocks
- Section structure
- Page flow
- Calls to action
- Navigation and menus
- Image presentation
- Consistency between pages
- Desktop, tablet and mobile presentation
- Overall polish and professionalism
You should also be confident recommending changes such as:
- Reorganising existing content
- Breaking longer sections into clearer content blocks
- Improving how key messages are presented
- Improving the relationship between headings, copy and imagery
- Improving page structure and flow
- Improving mobile presentation
- Improving consistency across the website
- Making better use of existing WordPress components
- Identifying areas of the site that feel unfinished, inconsistent or visually weak
The goal is to make the website feel more polished, professional, consistent and commercially effective, while working within the existing design and brand.
We are particularly interested in someone who can look at an existing page and independently say what could be improved and why, rather than simply following a list of instructions.
What We're Looking For
You should have:
- Strong WordPress experience
- A very good visual and design eye
- Excellent visual and design judgement
- Experience working on modern corporate and B2B websites
- A good understanding of typography, spacing and visual hierarchy
- An understanding of responsive web design
- Experience with WordPress page builders such as Elementor, Gutenberg or similar
- The confidence to critique an existing website and make your own recommendations
- An understanding of how users scan and navigate commercial websites
- The ability to work within an existing brand and design
- The ability to distinguish between worthwhile improvements and unnecessary redesign
- Good written English
- Excellent attention to detail
- The ability to work independently
- Reliability and responsiveness
- A strong portfolio of relevant work
We are particularly interested in candidates who can demonstrate that they have personally made design decisions and improvements, rather than simply implementing designs supplied by someone else.
What This Role Does Not Require
This is primarily a design and website presentation role rather than a development role.
We do not need:
- PHP development
- Backend development
- Custom plugin development
- Bespoke backend development
- Complex integrations
- A complete website rebuild
- A full website redesign
- Someone who requires us to provide a detailed specification for every change
General WordPress technical knowledge is useful, but design judgement is the most important part of this project.
There is potential for ongoing freelance work after the initial project for the right person.
This could include:
- Updating existing pages
- Creating new pages
- Adding and formatting case studies
- Formatting case studies
- Creating landing pages
- Updating website content
- Making ongoing design improvements
- General WordPress maintenance
