The University of Alberta Faculty of Law is seeking a legally qualified individual to lead the content development for an asynchronous online criminal law course. This course is an important part of a new undergraduate certificate program in Law; the audience is non-JD undergraduate students enrolled at the University of Alberta and those enrolled in the undergraduate certificate program. With the assistance of TAs, the course developer will compile and create all substantive content for the course, including micro-lecture videos, readings, assignments, and quizzes. No graphic design or web design experience is required, as the drafted course content will be provided to a design team to convert into a high quality online format.

This part-time position can be held in conjunction with another professional practice and/or position. The start and end dates for this appointment, and the schedule for weekly hours are negotiable, but the goal is to have the course fully drafted and ready for the design team by the end of June 2027.

With approximately 525 JD students and a robust graduate program, it is home to four research groups that provide critical insight and policy expertise: the Wahkohtowin Law Governance Lodge, Health Law Institute, Centre for Constitutional Studies, and Alberta Law Reform Institute.

  • Creating all course content, providing it to the online course builders, and working collaboratively to ensure high quality.
  • Creating all course assignments and assessments.
  • Providing guidance and oversight to teaching assistants (TA’s) who will aid in the content creation.
  • The ideal candidate is enthusiastic and self-motivated
  • Hold a JD or LLB degree
  • Experience and knowledge in the area of criminal law.
  • Experience in any of the following areas will be considered an asset:
  • Explaining legal concepts to a layperson audience
